I’ve tried a few different ways to break this down, but here’s the truth: this team might end up as one of the worst free-throw and three-point shooting squads in program history… and still has the talent, speed, and athleticism to be good.
But none of that matters if Autry doesn’t treat the Tennessee matchup like the national championship game. Syracuse has no other quality non-conference opportunities coming. If they don’t win this one, the road to the NCAA Tournament shrinks fast.
Autry said he challenged his players from the moment they woke up to the moment they went to sleep. That’s great—but if it doesn’t translate on the floor, it means nothing. This game needs to be the challenge. Full pressure. Full urgency. Play for broke.
Because if Syracuse doesn’t win this one? Tournament hopes fade… and Autry’s job security goes right with them. Fans want results. Period.
